5:00am, that’s what the clock read. I was sitting in my mom’s office I stole from her and was on call with a potential supplier.
Let’s rewind that a bit. While I was developing my ideas and values for RVLATION, I was also figuring out how to make my first product and turn it from a figment of my imagination to a real tangible item.
But what was I making? I have said it before but here I’ll go in to depth a bit more. So my idea was a knit hoodie made from 100% cotton. The interesting part about the product was the sleeves, I decided to use a special stitching technique known as Raglan Sleeves. This technique is used a lot in sportswear and is known for allowing better arm movement. Essentially it’s a diagonal stitch across the shoulder section of the sleeve. With that added my product had a uniqueness to it: It was not a athletic piece but it had versatility.
Why did I do this? For starters I saw a general trend of the younger generation (my target demographic) wearing athletic wear daily, more or less replacing regular clothing. So what that meant was lots of YoungLa, Gymshark, Lululemon etc. worn as just every day wear outside of the gym.
Where does my product fit? it fits as a comfortable piece that shifts away from opaque manufacturing policies from competing brands and shifts towards casual wear with versatility for more active or moving lifestyles.
There was just one problem…how in the world would I find a manufacturer and who would it be? Would they care if I was 16 or do I have the green light to get this going?
